Along mountains of fire and cities of baroque

Enjoying eastern Sicily

8 Days - 7 Nights

Sicily is the land of lava, vanished civilisations, baroque cities and simple cuisine. In this rugged, sun-scorched landscape, flocks of sheep seek the shade of a lone tree at midday. Reeds and rocks fringe pristine sandy beaches. This is where you will truly unwind.

This experience trip is the best proof that happiness lies in sobriety: a home-made spaghetti alla Norma, for example, fresh fish from the market, a good piece of pecorino cheese and a glass of strong wine. Mass tourism is far away here, and the small hotels are there not to impress but to welcome you with open arms. The baroque cities of Syracuse, Noto, Ragusa and Modica are not there to brag either, they are an ode to sedate life under the volcano.

Day 1 : Departure to Catania - Syracuse - Noto

You arrive at the airport and pick up your rental car to drive straight to your first stay. Cities such as Noto, Syracusa, Ragusa and Modica are never far away.

Day 2 : Syracuse

Today you will visit this archaeological gem, with its 5th-century BC amphitheatre, its ancient 'latomie' (stone quarries), and its peninsula of Ortigia, where time has stood still.

Day 3 : Noto

Noto is a baroque gem: must-see attractions include the magnificent cathedral, the primitive squares and the decorated balconies in the 'Via Corrado Nicolaci'. Those who can't get enough of the baroque can continue on to Modica, set in a narrow valley with some beautiful baroque buildings, and to Ragusa with its magnificent San Giorgio church in the old part of town.

Day 4 : Caltagirone - Piazza Armerina

You will drive via Caltagirone, with its monumental staircase covered in ceramic tiles, and Piazza Armerina, with its magnificent mosaics in the Villa Romana del Casale, en route to your second accommodation in Carruba di Riposto or at Calatabiano. Those who prefer to stay in Taormina can choose one of our hotels in this charming town.

Day 5 : Mount Etna

Europe's largest active volcano awaits you. A cable lift or a 4x4 jeep will take you to the top, before exploring some craters on foot with a volcano guide. Those who reach the summit will be treated to dizzying panoramas and a fantastic natural spectacle. Make sure to ask about our excursion options, we offer lots of activities to suit every age and ability level.

Day 6 : Taormina - Castelmola

You will visit Taormina and its magnificent Greek theatre, with breathtaking views of majestic Etna. From Taormina you will drive to the higher and typical Castelmola, a cosy village known for its sweet almond wine.

Day 7 : Forza d'Agro - Savoca

Spend a day relaxing by the pool or the beach. Or visit the typical medieval villages of Forza d'Agro and Savoca, which served as the setting for some scenes of the film 'The Godfather'.

Day 8 : Going home

Drive back to Catania airport, where you return your rental car and catch the plane back home.
