For travellers who enjoy combining culture and nature and want to discover Austria through well-known landscapes, standout locations and comfortable stays.

Day 1: Departure for Salzburg

Park your car and check in at a charming boutique hotel in the city, where you’ll be staying. Head into the city centre and go shopping in the lively, pedestrianised Linzergasse and Getreidegasse.

Day 2: Salzburg

Take a guided walk through the city and explore all the highlights, including Mozart’s birthplace, Mirabell Palace and its gardens, Hohensalzburg Fortress and so much more.

In the evening, enjoy a classical concert of your choice, combined with a three-course dinner.

Day 3: Achenkirch

You’ll check out and drive on to the next destination, Achenkirch. The hotel where you’ll be staying focuses on gastronomy and wellness, perfect for unwinding completely after your city break in Salzburg.

Day 4: Achensee and Karwendel Nature Park

Both the Achensee and the Karwendel Nature Park, Austria’s largest nature park, are absolute top destinations for hikers. Explore the lakes and forests on your own or be guided by a nature guide who will teach you all about the local flora and fauna.

Day 5: Innsbruck

Today you’ll visit Innsbruck. In the historic centre, admire the iconic Golden Roof, a balcony covered in gilded tiles. Nearby lies the Hofburg, an impressive palace from the Habsburg era. The Bergisel ski jump, famous from the 1976 Olympics, offers stunning views over Innsbruck and the mountains.

Day 6: Biberwier

You’ll drive on to Biberwier, where you’ll check into a fairytale setting. Choose a cottage with direct access to the lake or opt for a chalet with a private swimming pool and views of the surrounding mountains.

Day 7: Reutte

Get ready for a serious adrenaline rush! The Highline 179 is an impressive suspension bridge spanning the valley between Ehrenberg Castle and Fort Claudia. Drive on and visit Neuschwanstein Castle, one of the most iconic castles in the world, situated in the Bavarian Alps in southern Germany.

Day 8: Zugspitze

The hotel where you’re staying is situated at the foot of Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze. Adventurers can indulge themselves here with activities such as cycling, rafting, climbing and canyoning. For those who prefer to take it a bit easier, the summit of this imposing mountain is also accessible by cable car.

Day 9: Seebensee

Looking for that one holiday photo that will give you goosebumps for years to come? Then be sure to put on your walking boots for a visit to the Seebensee in the Wetterstein Mountains. This mountain lake, situated at an altitude of over 1,600 metres, is renowned for its crystal-clear blue waters, surrounded by majestic mountains and green alpine meadows.

Day 10: Back home

After a final breakfast, it’s time to check out and, with wonderful memories in your pocket, begin the journey home.

Frequently asked questions about this tour of Austria
What is the best time of year for this Alpine tour?

The period from June to September is ideal. The hiking trails to lakes such as the Seebensee are easily accessible then, the cable cars are operational and the weather is usually stable enough for both city visits and mountain activities.

Is it easy to combine a visit to Neuschwanstein Castle with a trip from Austria?

Certainly. From the Biberwier/Reutte region, it takes about 20 to 30 minutes to drive across the border to Füssen in Germany. Please note: Neuschwanstein is one of Europe’s most popular attractions, so booking tickets well in advance is absolutely essential.

How challenging is the walk to Seebensee?

The walk is of moderate difficulty. The paths are well-maintained, but a good level of fitness and sturdy walking boots are required. For those who wish to shorten the climb slightly, there are often local mountain railways or shuttles during the summer months that can take you part of the way up.
