Kenya in 9 days | Safari in Maasai Mara, Ol Pejeta & Lake Nakuru

9 Days - 8 Nights

Route

This tour of Kenya combines different aspects of the country. You start in Nairobi and then head into nature: vast savannahs, lakes full of birds, rhino reserves and, of course, the legendary Maasai Mara.

Rhythm

During these nine days, you will alternate safaris with rest in comfortable lodges. You will travel in a private 4x4 with a guide and move smoothly between different nature reserves.

Highlights

In Ol Pejeta, you will encounter the last northern white rhinos in the world. Lake Nakuru surprises with rhinos and, in the right season, a pink glow of flamingos along the lake. At Lake Naivasha, you will walk among giraffes and zebras. And in the Maasai Mara, everything revolves around open plains, predators and, between July and October, the impressive Great Migration.

Accommodation

You will stay in stylish safari lodges and small-scale boutique hotels surrounded by nature. Spacious suites or luxury tents with real beds, good showers and terraces where you can sit and relax in the evening.

Profile

For those who want to experience Africa for the first time and get off to a good start. For couples looking for something special. For travellers who once said, ‘One day I'm going on safari.’ This is that moment.

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi

You land in Nairobi and are personally picked up at the airport. A short transfer takes you to your hotel in a quiet neighbourhood of the city.

Take a shower, change into fresh clothes and then sit down for your first dinner in an African atmosphere. Tomorrow you will swap concrete for savannah.

Day 2: Ol Pejeta

After breakfast, you will leave Nairobi behind and drive to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. In the afternoon, you will step into your safari 4x4 for the first time. Your guide will scan the landscape while you try to realise that the giraffe over there is not a prop but just... real. The first safari always feels a bit surreal. By sunset, you will know: this is why you came.

Day 3: Ol Pejeta

Today you will return to the reserve. Ol Pejeta is known for its conservation projects and protects, among other things, the last two northern white rhinos in the world.

Between safaris, you can enjoy your lodge, the view and perhaps a drink on your terrace. If you wish, you can optionally go into the bush on foot with a ranger. Exciting? Yes. Safe? Yes, too. And above all: unforgettable.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru

Today you will drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, one of the best places in Kenya to spot rhinos. The park is easy to navigate, which means there's a good chance of seeing some action. Lions lazing in trees (yes, they do that here), buffalo in groups and maybe even a leopard hiding just a little too well. Depending on the season, flamingos colour the shores of the lake a soft pink. No guarantee, but a nice bonus.

Day 5: Lake Naivasha

Today, you will swap the jeep for a boat. On Lake Naivasha, you will glide peacefully across the water while hippos float half submerged. Afterwards, you will walk on Crescent Island among giraffes and zebras. There is no window between you and the landscape, only grass under your feet and wildlife around you.

Day 6: Maasai Mara

Today you will travel to the Maasai Mara, Kenya's most famous game reserve. The drive is a bit longer, but the landscape makes up for it. After lunch at your lodge, you will immediately go on safari. Lions, cheetahs, elephants and, in the right season, huge herds of wildebeest live here.

Day 7: Maasai Mara

Today you will head back into the Mara for long game drives. Your guide will follow tracks in the sand and listen to the radio to find out where the action is. Lions in the grass? Cheetah spotted? Then you're not far away.

If you travel between July and October, you may be lucky enough to witness the Great Migration. Thousands of wildebeests moving together and sometimes crossing the river.

If you want to make it extra special, get up early for a balloon ride. The sun rises, you float above the savannah and below, the wildlife roams around as if it were the most normal thing in the world. Which it actually is. Just not for you.

Day 8: Maasai Mara

One more day in the Mara. By now, you recognise the sound of the jeep and know that when your guide suddenly slows down, there is something to see. You go on safari again and drive into other parts of the reserve. Maybe today you will spot a leopard in a tree or a group of elephants calmly crossing the road. Maybe nothing spectacular will happen and you will just enjoy the landscape. That's fine too. In the evening, you will end with a final dinner in the bush. With that typical feeling: you could easily stay here for a few more days.

Day 9: Back home

After breakfast, you will take a domestic flight back to Nairobi. One last time, you will look down from the air at the savannah that has been your home for the past few days. At the airport, you will transfer to your international flight home. With a camera full of photos, dusty shoes and the feeling that nine days have actually passed surprisingly quickly.

Not ready to leave Africa yet? Then extend this tour in Kenya on the coast. In just over an hour, you can fly to Diani Beach or Mombasa, where white beaches and warm sea water await.

Carefree adventure

Expect a starting price of €12,800 per person. Flights? Taken care of. A private driver-guide who will take you everywhere safely and share the best stories along the way? Also taken care of. All you have to do is get in.
