The route takes you from old fortified towns and wooden harbour districts to deep fjords, waterfalls and villages between mountains and water.
Pace
You travel by boutique cruise along the Norwegian coast, without having to carry your luggage from one stop to the next. Each day brings a new stop or fjord passage. On land, you walk through historic quarters, visit a museum or head into nature. On board, you enjoy the view, a good dinner and the pleasure of travelling by water.
Highlights
In Fredrikstad, you walk along the ramparts of the old town. Arendal gives access to Raet National Park and in Egersund, you see the wooden houses of Hauen. In Lysefjorden, you sail past Preikestolen, Flørli and Kjerag. Nordfjordeid takes you into Viking history at Sagastad, while Geiranger, Hellesylt and Ålesund close the journey with fjords, mountain roads and Art Nouveau façades.
Accommodation
You stay on board a small-scale boutique cruise ship, with full board and drinks according to the programme. The atmosphere is more intimate than on a large cruise ship, with more attention to the route, the stops and the view from the sea. After arrival in Bergen, you extend the trip with a stay in one of our Caractère hotels.
Profile
This trip suits travellers who want to explore Norway in a comfortable way, but prefer not to drive every day. You enjoy fjords, coastal towns, nature and culture. At the same time, you appreciate a good bed, well-prepared food and an aperitif on deck after a day ashore.
This boutique cruise is available from 5 to 12 July 2027 and from 19 to 26 July 2027. Two summer departures during which Norway shows its most impressive landscapes. Feel free to contact us for additional options or to extend your trip in one of our lovely boutique hotels.
Day 1: Embarkation & departure from the harbour
In the late afternoon, you board your intimate boutique cruise ship. As you discover your cabin and take in your first glimpse of the water, a quiet sense of anticipation fills the deck. A drink in hand, the soft clinking of the ropes… by evening, you glide gently out of the fjord. The Norwegian coast lies ahead.
Day 2: Fredrikstad
Your first full day brings you to Fredrikstad, a charming fortified town at the mouth of the Glomma River. The historic centre is filled with cobbled lanes, wooden houses, artisan workshops and inviting cafés. The well-preserved ramparts tell almost five centuries of Norwegian history.
Nature lovers can follow trails toward the Oslofjord or head to nearby islands such as Hankø, where quiet beaches blend with pine forests.
Day 3: Arendal
Today you arrive in Arendal, a sunny coastal town with a lively maritime past. The compact old centre offers cosy squares, terraces and narrow alleys. Just outside town lies Raet National Park: a protected coastline of rounded rocks, conifer forests and peaceful pebble beaches that shimmer with a soft silver light. A beautiful mix of sea air and pure Norwegian nature.
Day 4: Egersund
This morning brings you to Egersund, a colourful town instantly recognisable by its cheerful wooden houses. In the old Hauen district, you stroll past cafés, boutiques and galleries, while Strandgaten reveals façades full of character. Those seeking a touch of history can visit Heidningeholmen Church, whose foundations date back to the 17th century.
Day 5: Lysefjorden & Skudeneshavn
In the morning, the ship enters the dramatic Lysefjorden. Steep granite cliffs, crystal-clear waters and iconic formations such as Preikestolen, Flørli and the Kjerag boulder create one of Norway’s most breathtaking landscapes.
In the afternoon, you sail to Skudeneshavn on the island of Karmøy. With its white wooden houses, boathouses and narrow lanes, this little town feels as though time has slowed down. The old harbour and its protected heritage district exude a gentle maritime charm.
Day 6: Nordfjordeid
Today you explore Nordfjordeid, a fjord town surrounded by lush valleys and steep mountain slopes. Once home to significant Viking communities, the region holds some of Norway’s richest archaeological finds. At the Sagastad Centre, you discover interactive exhibitions and admire the impressive 30-metre Myklebust Viking ship.
Day 7: Geiranger, Hellesylt & sailing towards Ålesund
In the morning, you sail into Geiranger, a UNESCO World Heritage fjord of towering cliffs, green slopes and waterfalls such as the Seven Sisters. Walk to one of the viewpoints or visit the Fjord Center for a deeper look into fjord life.
Later, the ship stops in Hellesylt, a colourful village where a river forms a charming waterfall before reaching the fjord. Afterwards, you continue towards Ålesund for an overnight stay.
Day 8: Ålesund, arrival in Bergen & disembarkation
The day begins in Ålesund, known for its elegant Art Nouveau architecture with turrets, pastel colours and decorative façades. A delightful city to explore. After sailing to Bergen, you disembark in the cultural capital of Western Norway. The old Hanseatic quarter, with its narrow streets and wooden merchant houses, feels like an open-air museum — a beautiful finale to your journey.
You travel directly to the airport with a smooth transfer, or you take a little more time to wander through Bergen and extend your stay in one of our boutique hotels. However you choose to end your journey, the pace feels just right: gently winding down, savouring the memories and holding on to all the beauty you’ve experienced.
