Profile
For families who effortlessly combine nature, culture and beach time, with room to explore together and unwind by the sea.
Day 1: Arrival in Paphos & check-in at Columbia Beach Resort
After arriving in Paphos, collect your hire car and drive along the coast to the resort. On the way, you’ll see olive groves, gently rolling hills and glimpses of the clear blue Mediterranean Sea. Your family suite has its own balcony or terrace, the perfect spot to unwind. In the evening, choose from Mediterranean, Asian or local Cypriot flavours in one of the resort’s restaurants.
Day 2: Paphos, a charming old town
Today you’ll explore the historic heart of Paphos. In the archaeological park, you’ll stroll amongst ancient villas, colourful mosaics and open spaces where stories from Greek mythology come to life. Afterwards, you’ll wander through the old town, past workshops and boutiques where you’ll unearth little local treasures.
Day 3: The Troodos Mountains
You’ll drive inland towards the Troodos Mountains. The road winds through pine forests and past small mountain villages where life still flows at a leisurely pace. You’ll take a short and manageable walk with beautiful views along the way. A visit to a traditional olive press or vineyard adds a lovely local touch to the day.
Day 4: Lara Bay, the sea turtles’ beach
Lara Bay is a protected nature reserve where green and hawksbill turtles nest. The soft sand, dunes and calm waters create an almost unspoilt beach atmosphere. You’ll learn more about turtle conservation and enjoy a walk along the coastline together.
Day 5: Akamas Peninsula & the Avakas Gorge
Today’s focus is the Akamas Peninsula, one of Cyprus’s most beautiful nature reserves. You’ll walk through the impressive Avakas Gorge, between high rock faces that provide cooling shade. Afterwards, you’ll head to the iconic Blue Lagoon, where the crystal-clear water invites you to swim and snorkel.
Day 6: Catamaran trip along Cyprus’s most beautiful coastal spots
A day on the water brings Cyprus to life in a different way. You’ll sail past picturesque bays, rock formations and Aphrodite’s Rock, one of the island’s most famous landmarks. With a bit of luck, you might spot a sea turtle along the way – always a highlight for children.
Day 7: Relaxing at Columbia Beach Resort
Today is all about relaxation. Explore the activities on offer at the resort: paddleboarding, cycling, swimming or simply enjoying a leisurely breakfast with a sea view. Those looking for a bit of action can take a lesson in windsurfing, sailing or water skiing. Those who prefer to take it easy can find a spot on the beach or by the pool. Everything is possible, nothing is compulsory.
Day 8: Departure from Paphos
You’ll drive back to Paphos Airport for your flight to Brussels. If you’re not quite ready to say goodbye to the Mediterranean sun, you can extend your stay at one of our other Caractère properties.
Frequently asked questions about this Cyprus tour
Do I need a hire car for this tour?
Yes, a hire car is essential for discovering the hidden gems of the west. Although the resort is fantastic, Lara Bay, the Avakas Gorge and the mountain villages in the Troodos Mountains are in locations that are barely accessible by public transport. It also gives you the freedom to stop for a spontaneous swim or an ice cream in a mountain village.
Are the walks in the gorge and the mountains suitable for young children?
Absolutely. The paths in the Avakas Gorge and the Troodos Mountains are easily accessible and offer plenty of shade. For the very youngest (under 4 years old), a baby carrier is more practical than a pushchair due to the occasionally rocky terrain.
When is the best time for this trip?
May, June and September are perfect: lovely swimming water and mild temperatures. Want to see the turtles at Lara Bay? They lay their eggs in the summer, and in September the little ones make their way to the sea.
