Boutique cruise along the Mediterranean from Athens to Lisbon

Ponant cruises

12 Days - 11 Nights

Sail 12 days between the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean with art anthropologist Vincent Giovannoni. You'll discover UNESCO World Heritage sites and stunning nature in four different countries: Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal.

Day 1: Athens

The trip starts in the capital of Greece, Athens. Embarkation starts from 4 pm to 5 pm and the ship departs at 6 pm. Explore some of Athens' liveliest neighborhoods: Plaka, with its maze of colorful streets, where in the evening the smell of moussaka and garlic shrimp will tantalize your taste buds. The National Archaeological Museum and the Cycladic Art Museum are also some of the city's main attractions, offering you the opportunity to discover Athens' cultural past.

Day 2: Itea

This small port is tucked away in the Gulf of Corinth in continental Greece, northwest of Athens. Take an easy stroll along the ancient cobbled quays and gaze at the mountain peaks that surround Itea Bay. Possibly visit the sanctuary of Delphi, some 10 km away.

Day 3: At Sea

During your sea voyage, take advantage of the many services and activities on board. Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation at the spa or stay in shape at the fitness center. Depending on the season, be tempted by the pool or a sunbathing session.

Day 4: Palermo, Sicily

Today you will visit Palerma where you will be captivated by the palaces, baroque splendor and grandeur that adorn the city with their aged beauty. In addition, it has colorful picturesque markets that are not to be missed.

Day 5: Cagliari, Sardinia

The capital of Sardinia, Cagliari, like Rome, is built on seven hills. The old city walls are now pleasant panoramic terraces bordering picturesque streets. By the sea, Art Nouveau-style public monuments give way to the Poetto beach, a beautiful 8-kilometer-long stretch of sand.

Day 6: Mahon, Balearic Islands

You will be welcomed by Mahon's colorful houses, narrow streets and beautiful squares that appear as you stroll through this contrasting town. Mahon reveals its different neighborhoods, alternating between monuments, villas and white buildings. Discover the Santa Maria Church, a building with neo-Gothic inspiration, rebuilt in the 18th century. Around the Carmen church you will find a local market full of stalls selling avarcas, typical Menorcan sandals originally made by peasants.

Day 7: Ibiza, Balearic Islands

"The white island," was from the 1930s a haven for European artistic bohemians and in the 1960s a paradise for hippies in search of authenticity. Ibiza has retained the charm of its wild bays and its villages of white fincas with flat roofs

Day 8: Cartagena

The natural location of Carthagena Bay, surrounded by hills, watches over the fate of this former fortress that has been home to Europe's greatest civilizations. The Roman theater is one of the most important and best preserved in Spain. You can also traverse the endless landscapes of vineyards and citrus groves toward Murcia to visit this dynamic regional capital.

Day 9: Malaga

Malaga is a historic and festive city in Andalusia, on the Costa del Sol. Between the marina and beaches, the promenade of La Farola offers an ideal setting for strolling and relaxing. Be sure to visit the Malagueta bullring. From the hill overlooking the old town you can see the Gibralfaro Castle and the Alcazaba. To visit the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, head first to the courtly plaza de la Merced. A few blocks back you can visit the museum dedicated to the artist, in the Buenavista Palace. In the evening, pay an exclusive visit to the Alhambra.

Day 10: Cadiz

Cádiz in Andalusia is located on the Costa de la Luz, in southwestern Spain. From the beaches of Cortadura to the flamenco bars of Santa Maria, through the colorful streets of la Viña, you will be amazed by this city. In the medieval neighborhood of El Pópulo, walk along covered passageways in the narrow cracks between houses. You can also stroll around the opulent Mina Square. The star of the show is the magnificent cathedral with its dome crowned with yellow porcelain that towers over the ocean.

Day 11: At sea

Last days you explored the cities, but now it is time to rest at sea. Enjoy the services and activities on board.

Day 12: Lisbon

Your last stop is Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. Disembarkation is at 8 am. At the mouth of the river port are two UNESCO World Heritage monuments, the Jeronimos Monastery and the Belem Tower. Alfama Hill is also worth a visit: known for its fado bars and Moorish streets, this neighborhood is the oldest in the city and one of the most typical. Not far from there, the elegant streets of Chiado are home to major fashion brands and invite luxury shopping.
