Day 1: Valletta
On your first day, explore the UNESCO World Heritage city of Valletta, the capital of Malta. Embarkation is between 4 and 5 pm, departure is at 6 pm.
Day 2: Porto Empedocles
Porto Empedocles, located on the southwest coast of Sicily, bears the name of the philosopher Empedocles, who lived in the region in the 5th century BC. An ancient city yielding to sun and sea. This is your gateway to the exceptional archaeological site of the Valley of the Temple. There you will admire the remains of many temples dedicated to Zeus, his wife Hera and Hephaestus. Be sure to take in the beautiful Italian countryside, with its olive groves covering the hillsides.
Day 3: Tunis
Today you will explore Tunisia's capital city, Tunis. The ruins of ancient Carthage testify to the splendor of this city that was once Rome's great rival. The hill of Byrsa offers spectacular views of the Gulf of Tunis. At the National Museum of Bardo, you can admire one of the finest Roman mosaic collections in the world.
Day 4: Trapani
Trapani is the next port city you visit, located in western Sicily. As you wander its streets, you will discover an ancient cultural heritage that testifies to the many influences of civilizations that came here: The Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the shrine of Maria Santissima Annunziata, the fountain of Triton. On the shaded terraces of the restaurant, taste the fresh fish from the morning catch or opt for couscous with seafood, a culinary legacy of their Arab neighbors.
Day 5: Palermo
Today is scheduled for Palermo, the largest capital of the Italian islands. Here you'll fall under the spell of the palaces, baroque splendor that adorn the city with their aged beauty.
Day 6: Lipari, Aeolian Islands
Today you will stop in Lipari, the largest island of the Aeolian archipelago. The island has extraordinary nature, such as Rocce Rosse, where solidified lava flows give the landscape a red color. In the center of Lipari you will find an impressive castle that towers over the town, and nearby stands a beautiful Norman cathedral with an elegant baroque facade. In the evening you will have the chance to admire Stromboli, the jagged volcano that towers over the Aeolian Islands. Its activity, uninterrupted for thousands of years, has earned it the nickname "Lighthouse of the Mediterranean."
Day 7: Taormina
Taormina, located on the east coast of Sicily, is the Saint-Tropez of Sicily, full of historic sights, secluded beaches and luxury shopping. You can visit the medieval center, suspended 300 meters above sea level, where terraces offer spectacular views of the Mediterranean. Another relic of the past are the ruins of the Greco-Roman theater.
Day 8: Syracuse
The undulating rocky coastline, the endless sandy beaches, the looming form of Mount Etna that overlooks the island like a patriarch, the flowery gardens on the hills.... Sicily presents its varied landscapes like a shopkeeper displays his wares. Syracuse, described by Cicero as "the most beautiful city in the world," was one of Sicily's most prestigious cities and at its height was even a rival to Athens. The mix of Arab, Roman, Norman, Byzantine and Spanish cultures makes Syracuse a city extraordinarily rich in scents, colors and flavors.
Day 9: Valletta
Your journey ends today and you arrive back in Valletta. Disembarkation is at 8 am. You can continue exploring the city or have a drink at a cozy terrace to end your trip.
