Profile
For walkers seeking nature and variety without long stages. You’ll combine forests, coast and culture with comfort and a fixed base.
Day 1: Santiago de Compostela
You’ll arrive at your hotel just outside Santiago de Compostela. There, you can settle in at your leisure and enjoy the spa. Fancy exploring the area? Then you can pay a visit to Santiago de Compostela, the capital of Galicia. This is Spain’s most famous pilgrimage site and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy the car-free historic centre and stroll through the streets to discover the main sights, such as the Monasterio de San Martiño Pinario and the cathedral.
Day 2: Fragas do Eume and A Coruña
Today, you’ll head out into nature at the Fragas do Eume Nature Park. It is one of the best-preserved Atlantic forests. The vegetation is dense and sometimes lets little light through, but the shady and mysterious forest is incredibly bountiful when it comes to waterfalls, springs and landscapes. Hidden in the heart of the forest, you’ll discover the monastery of Caaveiro. The best way to explore the park is on foot or, for adventure lovers, by kayak on the river that flows through it. On the way back, you can stop in A Coruña, where you can enjoy authentic Galician cuisine in the many restaurants.
Day 3: Cape Finisterre
Your first stop is at the Cascada de Ezaro in Dumbría, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Spain. From there, you’ll drive on to the rugged coast at Finisterre, also known as the end of the world. It is a mythical place on the Costa da Morte. This so-called ‘Coast of Death’ owes its name to the many shipwrecks caused by storms at sea or by vessels crashing against the coastal rocks. It is one of the three largest coastal towns in Galicia and is characterised by rocks, jagged headlands, charming fishing villages, lighthouses and a wild ocean. You will visit the village of Finisterre, with its narrow streets, cosy bars and delicious seafood restaurants. From the village, take a walk towards the coast where a true Santiago pilgrim burns their shoes.
Day 4: Lugo
Today’s programme includes a city walk in Lugo. The historic centre, completely surrounded by Roman city walls with gates and towers, makes this city unique. First, walk along the city walls around the town and then continue towards the centre. Stroll past Lugo’s highlights, such as the cathedral, Roman bridge and Roman baths, and immerse yourself fully in the city’s Roman history. Afterwards, relax on a cosy terrace.
Day 5: Back home
Your walking adventures in Galicia have come to an end. Would you like to stay longer in this region? We’d be happy to help you plan the rest of your holiday.
