Profile
Ideal for travellers who enjoy stylish lakeside destinations and want to combine culture and nature while discovering the Swiss Riviera at a relaxed pace.
Day 1: Arrival in Montreux
You arrive in Montreux with your (rental) car and check in for four nights in a room overlooking the lake. Take time to explore the area around the hotel and enjoy an initial stroll along the boardwalk, where flowers, palm trees and artwork follow the pace of the lake.
Day 2 : Château de Chillon and Montreux
A short distance from the hotel is Château de Chillon, a medieval castle perched on a rock in the lake. Stroll through its impressive halls and towers overlooking the water. Afterwards, drive on to Montreux, where you can stroll along the promenade or visit the statue of Freddie Mercury. For fans, The Studio Experience, in Queen's old recording studio, is a fascinating outing. Finish with a coffee on a waterfront terrace.
Day 3: Panorama Train to Rochers-de-Naye
Take the train from Montreux and transfer to the cable car train to Rochers-de-Naye. This ride takes you straight into the mountains, with views of the lake and Alps along the way. Once at the top, you hike through an alpine meadow at 2,000 feet with views of the Eiger and Mont Blanc, among others. The fresh mountain air and panoramic scenery make this excursion one of the highlights of the trip.
Day 4: Day trip to Lausanne
Today you'll visit Lausanne, about a 30-minute drive from Montreux. Start in the historic upper town, where the Gothic cathedral and narrow streets preserve the town's ancient character. Then descend to Ouchy, the waterfront district, where you'll visit the Olympic Museum or take a stroll along the quayside. Combine culture with gastronomy and taste wines from the Lavaux vineyards at one of the local addresses nearby.
Day 5: Return home
After breakfast, you check out. You'll travel back home or drive on to your next Caractère destination in Switzerland or just across the border in France or Italy.
