The vast estate is home to more than 20 species of birds, some of which are very rare. Both Micaronesian Sparrows, of which there are only nine pairs, and Madeira Laurel Doves, a protected species native to Madeira, can be seen nesting in the garden's trees.
All rooms are classically decorated and spread over 3 buildings: 'The Old House', the main building, 'The Garden Wing' and 'The Golf Wing'. Each room combines classic tailoring with contemporary touches. Warm, dark-colored hardwood furniture, floral-print curtains and classic bedding together illustrate a gracious and sophisticated interior filled with fresh flowers, large mirrors and framed prints of rare and beautiful flora.
Definitely one of the junior suites. Located in the 'Old House', these rooms provide a rare combination of space and light. Each suite has a unique personality. They are all beautifully decorated and provide an ornate 19th-century feel. Each room is named after a prominent person inextricably linked to the Palheiro estate. We stayed in the Conde de Carvalhal suite, named after the count who built the estate.
