In 1912, Austrian doctors conducted environmental studies in this pristine and densely forested area and discovered that the pure water, healthy mountain air, many sunny days and mild climate zone had a beneficial effect on health and well-being. The combination of these assets led to the construction of a sanatorium, which was later converted into this hotel.
The very spacious rooms are minimalistically decorated with natural materials, such as local dolomite stone and wood. They have breathtaking views of the Dolomite mountain peaks. Bathrobes slippers are ready in the bathrooms with spacious rain showers.
Our favourite is the Tower Suite. With floor-to-ceiling windows and a terrace, here you look directly out over the majestic Dolomites. The stylish interior, from the comfortable king-size bed to the cosy tiled stove, exudes luxury. The bathroom, complete with bathtub and rain shower, completes the picture.
There is a heated indoor and outdoor swimming pool.
There is a wellness centre including heated indoor and outdoor pools, saunas and a relaxation area with breathtaking mountain views and comfortable loungers. Treatments and use of the private spa are at an extra charge. Take a class of Wyda Yoga, based on the movement teachings of Celtic druids. Hikes and bike tours depart from the hotel, occasionally with free guidance: free backpacks, hiking poles and snowshoes are available. Stargazing around the fireplace is also possible. From the hotel, a quiet forest path leads directly to the ski slope and to the chairlift that takes you to the Plose mountain station. From here, 45 kilometres of ski slopes are accessible. The Plose ski area has the longest downhill run in South Tyrol.
Children are welcome from 14 years of age.
Several levels of curved seating are designed so that they all overlook the large glass wall, which seamlessly connects the interior space to the outdoor landscape - perfect for dining with a view of the Dolomites. At sunset, the spectacle only becomes more magical.
In the morning, you'll enjoy a highly catered breakfast buffet that includes local cheeses and granola. In the evening, Chef Roland Lamprecht serves excellent and refined cuisine that includes vegetables, fruits and herbs sourced from local farmers that he visits personally to guarantee "zero waste" and the best quality. He goes in search of mushrooms and edible plants himself and he visits the lemon groves around Lake Garda and the fish market of Verona to find the very best ingredients.
Forestis is very quietly located, at an altitude of 1800 metres in the South Tyrolean Alps, against the southern slope of the Plose mountain and with breathtaking views of the imposing peaks of the Dolomites. Brixen is about 20 km away, Bruneck 45 km and Bozen 68 km.
The nearest airport is that of Bolzano, 64 kilometres away.
