Grand Hôtel Soleil d'Or is the very first hotel in Megève. It opened its doors back in 1901, long before the famous Baroness Noémie de Rothschild turned the village into a luxury ski resort and before Megève grew into a renowned destination. The hotel quite literally stood at the cradle of tourism in this alpine village.
The 28 accommodations are split between the main building and three standalone chalets on the estate. You will find a lovely variety of places to stay: from cozy rooms tucked under the sloping roof to more spacious options featuring a private balcony and views of the village. Guests traveling with family or a group of friends can choose a generous suite or even a fully private chalet. Every room brings out that cozy mountain vibe, perfect for unwinding after a day outdoors.
Our absolute favorite is the Deluxe Room with private balcony. At around 30 m², these rooms offer plenty of space. In the morning, you can step straight from your bed onto the balcony with a warm drink to enjoy the views of Megève and the surrounding mountain peaks: now that is waking up the Caractère way!
Water lovers will find plenty to enjoy both in and around the hotel. Inside, there is a spa with an indoor pool, ideal for a refreshing dip or complete relaxation. A short walk away lies Palais Megève, the largest sports and aquatic center in the Alps, featuring indoor pools, an outdoor Olympic pool, waterslides, and wellness facilities. If you are looking for larger waters, you can reach the idyllic Lake Annecy or nearby Lake Joux in under an hour, where kayaking, paddleboarding, and sailing await.
Whether you come to unwind or pure action: the region offers plenty of great activities year-round. If there is one thing you absolutely should not miss at the restaurant (La Fromagerie), it is their truffle fondue or champagne fondue. The restaurant is renowned for its refined take on Savoyard and Swiss cheeses.

Despite its central location in the pedestrian area, the hotel offers a peaceful retreat with breathtaking views over the village and the Alps.
The nearest and most convenient international airport is Geneva Airport, located roughly 70 to 80 kilometers away. By car or transfer, the drive takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes.
