About the rooms

The small-scale rooms are comfortable and cozy, most of which retain the original bricks of the miners' houses.

Worth getting out of bed for

The hotel is excellently located for visiting the Louvre Lens and the legendary Bollaert-Delelelis stadium. It is also the ideal starting point for exploring the mining region including the slag heaps and the Lewarde Mining History Centre, France's largest mining museum, classified as a historical monument and on the Uneso World Heritage List, where more than 2 billion tons of coal were once mined.

The region is not only characterized by the mining industry, it was also the scene of many battles during the First World War. Many sites in the region recount this sad part of history and pay tribute to the soldiers who died in the war. The most famous cemetery is Notre-Dame de Lorette, the largest military cemetery in Europe where 45,000 soldiers from different countries are buried.

Also the Canadian Vimy Memorial is Canada's most impressive monument in Europe and a tribute to the 66,000 young Canadians who lost their lives in France during World War I. Canadian sculptor Seymour Allward spent 11 years working on this memorial. From here you have a breathtaking view of the hills of Artois which was the setting for several battles on several occasions.

Definitely worth a visit is the Wellington stone quarry. After a descent in a glass elevator to a depth of 20 meters, you enter one of the most secret places in military history and discover a real underground city where more than 20,000 soldiers prepared their surprise attack of World War I, the Battle of Arras. Make sure to visit one of the most beautiful medieval forts in the region, the Château d'Olhain, a fortress from the 13th and 15th centuries. The original castle with its courtyard, chapel, bakery, watchtower, vaulted cellars and dungeon is still surrounded by moats with water. An authentic example of a fortified water castle.

Caractère review

Pleasantly renovated historic hotel, no great luxury, but personal and attentive service with an excellent location for visiting the Louvre-Lens museum and the historic mining region.
