In a natural bowl formed by an ancient glacier and surrounded by imposing mountains and green garden terraces, the beautiful Lake Como wallows in a romantic atmosphere. In the 19th century, European aristocracy discovered the serene beauty of Europe's deepest lake. They had magnificent villas built there and populated the stately "Grand Hotels. On the southeastern shore lies Lecco, the second largest city on the lake. The city owes its fame to the 19th-century author Alessandro Manzoni. The most important Italian writer of Romanticism spent much of his life here. His famous novel "I Promessi Sposi" - The Betrothed - is set in this area. In the small town of Malgrate is the completely renovated Hotel Promessi Sposi, named after the novel.

From Varenna , 23 km away, you can take the ferry to the western shore. Here you can visit Menaggio, one of the lakeside towns.
