Around the beginning of the 18th century, the former island of Monte Argentario began to attach itself to the Tuscan mainland with two headlands. Before that, the island was also politically independent of Tuscany and was under Spanish rule, as was the larger neighboring island of Elba. Today, the peninsula is a popular vacation destination with beautiful beaches, steep cliffs, hidden coves and cozy seaside towns. One of these is Porto Ercole, a typical Italian fishing village with colorful houses and a picturesque harbor. In this idyllic setting lies the brand new hotel La Roqqa, whose decor is inspired by the glamour of 1960s Italy. The name refers to the three Spanish fortresses that tower over the town, from which you can enjoy stunning views.
The hotel is open from mid-April to early November.
55 rooms.
You can check in from 3pm. Check-out is by 11am.
Locals, the hotel team and guests are regularly invited to take part in a beach clean-up to protect the landscape.
All rooms have a balcony or terrace, usually sea views, and an espresso machine. They are decorated according to three colour themes, one for each floor: Terra di Siena is the typical colour of the buildings in Porto Ercole. Green is matching the vegetation and blue is the colour of the sea. The suites, some with 3 or 4 bedrooms, are decorated in sandy hues with a colourful accent here and there. The bathrooms have a shower, bathrobes, slippers and exclusive bath products.
In the Maremma seaview terrace room, you will enjoy frontal sea views from your spacious terrace.
The hotel has a Beach Club with a bar, a restaurant and free sun loungers, parasols and beach towels. The hotel's electric shuttle takes you there free of charge. You can engage in water sports there - subject to a supplement - including kayaking, supping, snorkelling and jet skiing.
Sports enthusiasts can work out in the gym or take part in guided cycling and walking tours, water sports and yoga classes at the Isolotto Beach Club. A tennis court is about 2 km away and an 18-hole golf course is 7.5 km away. Those who wish can go horseback riding at Uccellina Park or visit the ancient Roman archaeological site of Cosa, 16 km away. Through the hotel, you can book private boat trips with skipper along the Argentario coast and the nearby islands of Giglio and Giannutri.
Children are welcome from 8 years old. The suites are suitable for families. They have at least 1 separate bedroom and a living room.
Be sure to try the “spaghetti 8 pomodori,” with eight types of tomato. This seemingly simple dish opens up a world of flavors, textures and aromas.
