At the heart of the Cyclades a mini archipelago is nestled. Hardly known islets such as Kéros, Donoúsa, Koufonísia, Schinoúsa and Irakliá cluster safely around Náxos, the largest island of the Cyclades, a place chosen by gods and heroes. For it was on Náxos that the supreme god Zeus came to rest and that the legendary Ariadne, abandoned by Theseus and assailed by the wine god Dionysos, desperately threw herself from a rock into the sea. A temple ruin now stands on this rock, looking out melancholically over fertile valleys full of vineyards and olive groves and the white streets around the Venetian fortress in the capital Chóra. A real life postcard picture lined with golden beaches on the azure waters of the Aegean ...
