In the heart of the historic town of Lousã stands the stately Palace of Lousã, a magnificent 18th -century palace that was once home to the viscountess of Espinhal. The listed historic building is a true tribute to its surroundings. Elegant plasterwork, four-poster beds, scrolled balconies and imperial staircases add grandeur. The picturesque mountain views and charm of the surrounding villages are so intriguing that you won't want to leave this place.

There are rooms housed in the palace. These have historic plasterwork details and ornate window frames. Some of these rooms even have balconies from which you could reenact a scene from Romeo and Juliet in no time. The rooms in the modern wing are more spacious and more suitable for families with children.
At Caractère, we love a good dose of romance. We prefer the rooms in the palace. And preferably the Deluxe Premium room because it has a four-poster bed.

The winter garden is our favourite spot: a conservatory with floor-to-ceiling windows. A dining spot with mountain views!
Make sure to try the slow-cooked lamb with chestnuts in A Terra restaurant. Delicious!
Restaurant A Terra is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Pale wood floors, Japanese pendant lights in the shape of lanterns and ferns on the ceiling reflect the decor. Chef Rafael Marais loves to spoil his guests with unique gastronomic experiences. He aims to combine the simplest ingredients from the sea and the mountains to create the most delicious dishes. The fine dining restaurant A Viscondessa serves luxurious Portuguese cuisine in a beautiful setting. In this historically refined setting with ornate ceilings and beautiful woodwork, you will go on a true culinary journey through time. We were told that the Duke of Wellington once dined here.
