Colourful boats float in a rock-sheltered bay and green mountains rise from the sea like giants. Surrounded by breathtakingly high cliffs and green terraces lies Camara de Lobos. Although it probably looked completely different in 1950, even Winston Churchill agreed that the fishing village with its white houses and red roofs is one of Madeira's most picturesque spots. In this 'colourful' seaside resort, Pestana recently opened its latest boutique hotel: Pestana Fishermans Village. When renovating the old government building, the main aim was to preserve its authenticity. Thus, the vaulted ceilings and original stone walls were integrated into the new hotel. For the interior design, they found inspiration from Ernest Hemingway, who used to frequent Camara de Lobos. The interior is entirely inspired by Hemingway's book "The old man and the sea".
The hotel is open all year round.
42 inviting rooms in bright colors.
Check-in available from 3 pm. Last check-out at noon.
From 250 euros.
Every summer, the residents of Camara de Lobos celebrate the festival of St. Peter. During this celebration, the streets are decorated with the most artistic and downright strange decorations hanging from clotheslines over the streets. An extremely funny sight.
All rooms are warm and cozy and have air conditioning, LCD TV, USB connection, soundproof windows, telephone, wifi, hairdryer and mini bar.
The superior room is our favourite. On the headrests of the bed you will find a special mention of Ernest Hemingway.
From the outdoor rooftop pool you have a beautiful panoramic view of the city and surrounding area.
The hotel has a library, several living rooms and a patio where you can relax. Near the hotel you can go on beautiful walks.
Children of any age are welcome here.
Settle down at a table at rooftop restaurant Pier One for great views of the harbour and sea.
In the morning, enjoy a delicious breakfast in the living room or outside on the terrace, next to the fountain. For lunch and dinner, you are invited to "Pier One" on the top floor of Pestana Churchill Bay, where mostly typical specialties of Madeira are served.

The one thing that makes this small boutique hotel so special is its location. Tucked away in the historic centre of one of Madeira's prettiest villages. Far away from all the crowds, you can spend your days here on a terrace with a glass of Poncha and a sea view. There's nothing more wonderful right? Want to see a bit more of the island? That's possible as all the highlights are a stone's throw from the hotel.
