In the rolling hills of Umbria, south of Lake Trasimeno, lies Relais Villa Monte Solare, an intimate retreat with an aristocratic past. In the 18th century, the villa was home to noble families; today, it welcomes travelers with the same grandeur, yet in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Inside, you’ll find refined frescoes, original terracotta floors, antique furniture, and grand marble fireplaces that whisper tales of the past. The rooms are spread across the main 18th-century villa and four charming annexes: the Limonaia, once used to shelter lemon trees in winter, La Casa dei Gelsi, the “mulberry house,” Gli Olivi, surrounded by olive groves, and L’Olivaia, featuring an old millstone.

The annex Casa dei Gelsi, literally “the house of mulberries,” owes its name to the aristocratic Giommaroni Cherubini family. In the 17th century, they cultivated mulberry trees here to feed silkworms used in silk production.
The rooms are spread across four buildings and combine authentic charm with modern comfort. Antique furniture, wooden beams and terracotta floors create a warm and elegant atmosphere. Each room features an espresso machine and a minibar with complimentary soft drinks. Bathrooms include a bath or shower, hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers. Some rooms also have a private terrace.
The Prestige Room stands out for its space and elegance. Some feature a small patio, while others offer a stunning view of the surrounding landscape. For families, the Deluxe Family Suite is ideal: located in one of the annexes, it features a separate bedroom and a lounge with two single beds.
Set among olive trees, two outdoor swimming pools are open from around May to the end of September. Sun loungers and pool towels are provided free of charge, perfect for relaxing with a view of the rolling hills.
Guests enjoy two hours of complimentary daily access to the Umbria Panorama Spa (for guests aged 12 and above). The wellness area features a heated indoor pool with hydromassage, a hammam, a sauna with panoramic views, an ice waterfall and a sun terrace. Massages and beauty treatments are available at an extra cost.
There is also a tennis court (free with reservation), and bicycles and e-bikes can be rented on site.
Children are welcome, though no specific facilities are provided.

In the Dolium restaurant, you can savour traditional Umbrian cuisine, elegantly presented and prepared with local produce, organic vegetables and seasonal ingredients such as black truffle. The wine list is particularly impressive, offering a wide selection of Umbrian wines. Wine tastings are available upon request and at an additional charge. When the weather is pleasant, meals are served outdoors on the terrace beneath the trees.
Relais Villa Monte Solare enjoys a peaceful, green setting in the heart of a vast Italian garden filled with citrus trees, on an estate of around 80 hectares. The medieval village of Panicale, one of Umbria’s most beautiful, is about 13 km away. Città della Pieve, birthplace of the artist Il Perugino and known for its saffron production, lies about 23 km away. Castiglione del Lago, on Lake Trasimeno, is 25 km away, while Perugia is 30 km and Assisi 53 km. The charming hilltop town of Todi is 50 km away, and Orvieto, with its magnificent cathedral, about 60 km.
