About the rooms

The 53 rooms are small flats with private kitchens and sitting areas. The geometric patterns and gold accents used in the public areas provide a touch of decadence befitting a building that was once a palace. In contrast, the rooms are filled with furniture and textiles made by local artisans, reflecting the soul of Lisbon. The artworks hanging in the rooms include work by celebrated street artist Maser, who gained fame for his work in Dublin's backstreets.

Our favourite room

Book a room on the top floor because of the great views over the city. If you can't, that's not a disaster because you'll also have great views from the lower rooms. Moreover, all rooms are equally stylishly decorated.

Enjoy a refreshing swim

The hotel has no swimming pool but you don't need that in multi-faceted Lisbon.

Work out and wind down

If you want to relax after a busy day in the city, you can do so at the hotel's small but stylish spa. A sauna, steam room and four treatment rooms where Lisbon's best therapists offer a wide range of treatments. There is also a gym with treadmill, bike and weights for the sporty among us. A personal trainer is available on request.

Children

Children of all ages are welcome at this hotel. For families, the two-bedroom flats are definitely the best choice as they offer plenty of space. You can also request a babysitting service in advance for a fee.

Food & Drink

top table

No doubt about it! Have breakfast and dinner on the hotel's roof terrace - weather permitting, of course. Your pasteis de nata tastes so much better with that spectacular view over Lisbon's skyline and Tagus River.

dress code

Smart casual.

The hotel has no less than two restaurants. Lumi Rooftop Bar & Restaurant is run by Portuguese chef João Silva. Lumi is located on the rooftop terrace and has one of the best views of the Bairro Alto. One serves elegant Portuguese dishes with an international touch. The extensive breakfast is also served here. On the ground floor you eat at M'arrecreo. Here you will enjoy Neapolitan pizzas prepared to perfection in a 480°C stone oven. The menu includes both classic pizzas and unique creations, all made with the best ingredients.

Location

The Hotel Lumiares is located in the lively Bairro Alto district, one of Lisbon's trendiest neighbourhoods. The hotel's elegant white façade contrasts sharply with the surrounding buildings, some of which predate the devastating earthquake of 1755. The view of the city from the hotel's roof terrace is breathtaking: the Tagus on one side, the imposing Castelo de São Jorge on the other. Bairro Alto itself is a lively district packed with restaurants, bars, shops and museums. What's more, numerous monuments, monasteries, cathedrals and art galleries are just around the corner. The best of the city is literally around the corner.

Are you travelling by plane?

From Lisbon airport, it is a 30-minute drive to the hotel.

Transfer

Caractère will be happy to arrange a taxi to take you from the airport to the hotel. The price for this is on request.

Do you have a (rental) car?

In Lisbon, you don't need a car at all. Just explore the city on foot or take a tram, bus or taxi at fairly cheap rates. If you do come by car, you can park it in the hotel's secure underground car park for a fee. A lift takes you from the garage directly into the lobby. By the way, the hotel also has a fast car charger for electric cars.
