Day 1: Departure for Lanzarote
You’ll fly to Lanzarote Airport, where you’ll collect your hire car. After a short drive, you’ll arrive at La Isla Y El Mar, your home base for the coming week.
Day 2: Teguise
You’ll start in the island’s interior, at the former capital, Teguise. The town’s main attraction is the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, which is definitely worth a visit. On Sundays, there is a local market featuring fresh delicacies, handmade goods and local art. Art lovers should stop off at the Museo de Arte Sacro. Families with children are better off visiting the Museo de la Piratería, where young and old alike can learn about the island’s history and the pirates’ influence on the local population. In the afternoon, head to La Caleta de Famara; the beach is the perfect spot for sunbathing, swimming or trying your hand at a surfing lesson.
Day 3: Timanfaya National Park
Today you’ll visit the national park, Lanzarote’s most extraordinary park. The best way to explore the park is on foot. Please note that a large part of the park can only be visited with a guide, but we’ll be happy to arrange that for you. In the afternoon, you’ll dine at a spectacular restaurant, built on the side of a volcano. Afterwards, you’ll continue to Lago Verde, a bright green lake situated in an ancient volcanic crater, surrounded by a black sand beach and rugged cliffs, close to the fishing village of El Golfo on the west coast of Lanzarote.
Day 4: La Geria – Playa del Papagayo
Today you’ll explore the south of Lanzarote. Here you’ll find one of the island’s most remarkable wine regions, La Geria, where you’ll learn more about the unique way they practise viticulture. Then drive on to the island’s salt flats, where you can spot flamingos and other water birds. You’ll finish at the southernmost tip, where you’ll discover stunning views and peaceful beaches.
Day 5: Piscinas de Punta Mujeres – El Jardín de Cactus
Start the day with a refreshing dip in the natural pools formed by volcanic rocks at Punta Mujeres. The village is brimming with cosy local restaurants and cafés to satisfy your appetite afterwards. On the way back, visit El Jardín de Cactus, one of Manrique’s final projects, featuring over 4,500 species of cacti.
Day 6: Cueva de los Verdes – Jameos del Agua – Mirador del Río
Today you’ll explore the caves of Los Verdes, a fascinating underground world. Nearby you’ll also find Jameos del Agua, a complex built within a series of volcanic lava tunnels. You’ll then drive further north, where from Mirador del Río you’ll enjoy a panoramic view and can even see the nearby island of La Graciosa.
Day 7: Arrecife
You’ll spend your last full day in the Canary Islands in the capital, Arrecife. This bustling coastal town has plenty of sights to see, and it’s impossible to get bored here. A must-see is the Castillo de San Gabriel, where the Museo de Historia takes you on a journey through Lanzarote’s rich history. Art lovers can visit the International Museum of Contemporary Art, or alternatively enjoy the beautiful beaches around the city, such as Playa del Reducto.
Day 8: Back home
Unfortunately, your holiday is already over and it’s time to head home. You’ll fly back home with a suitcase full of memories. Fancy staying a few days longer? No problem, Caractère will sort that out for you!
