Day 1: Spittelberg and the Jewish Quarter
Upon arrival, check in at a Caractère hotel located in the artists' district of Spittelberg. You will start exploring this charming district full of beautiful architecture, studios and boutiques. Stroll through the cobbled streets and get inspired by local artists. Afterwards, you can move on to the city centre where you will discover Roman Catholic St Stephen's Cathedral and the Jewish Quarter.
Day 2: Coffee houses and Schloss Schönbrunn
Coffee lovers should experience the unique 'Kaffeehauskultur' in Vienna's many coffee houses. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the cafés became the meeting place for artists and intellectuals, including Sigmund Freud. Some recommended places are Café Schopenhauer, Café Central or Café Landtmann. Next, visit Schloss Schönbrunn, a palace located in the Hietzing district, with a guide. Lose yourself in the richly decorated rooms culminating in the Millionenzimmer. Afterwards, admire the beautiful gardens of Schlosspark.
Day 3: Museumquartier and Donauinsel
Your day starts in the Museumquartier. It is a cosy meeting place bustling with culture. Visit one of the museums such as the Museum of Art History or Leopold Museum. If you can't get enough of the large collections of art in this city, make sure to visit the Belvedere Museum. In the afternoon, escape from city life for a while and head to Donauinsel, an artificial island built to protect Vienna from floods. Stroll through Danube Park and take in the best views from Austria's largest building, the Donauturm. Those who want can attend a show from Friday to Sunday by the Spanish Riding School, one of the world's oldest and best-known riding schools.
Day 4: National Austrian Library and going home
If you still have time to pop into town before returning home, make sure to stop by the National Austrian Library. Here you will discover more than 7 million books including 200,000 historical books. The frescoes in the main hall of the library are at least as impressive. It is one of the most beautiful historical library halls in the world.
