Day 1: Foodie tour and wine tasting

Day 2: The Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum

Just as Paris has its Eiffel Tower and Rome its Colosseum, Athens has its Acropolis. The city’s most famous monument has towered proudly above the Athenian rooftops for centuries. Here you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of this almost endless metropolis and be catapulted back in time more than 2,000 years. No visit to the Greek capital is therefore complete without stopping at this impressive complex; a fortified citadel from classical antiquity, the highlight of which is the Parthenon, the iconic temple dedicated to the goddess Athena. Continue your visit at the ultra-modern Acropolis Museum, at the foot of the hill, where you can view some of the most important relics from Ancient Greece. Finally, be sure to make time to wander around the streets surrounding the Acropolis. Thanks to the many street musicians, there is an almost magical atmosphere, especially at dusk.

Day 3: Cycle tour along the Athenian Riviera

Today it’s time to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. And what better way to do that than to get some fresh air on a bike ride along the elegant embankments of the Athenian Riviera? An experienced guide will take you past famous highlights, such as the impressive Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre. Along the way, you’ll pass chic seaside resorts full of luxury yachts and lovely beaches, so don’t forget your swimsuit if the weather’s fine! Once you’ve cooled off and refreshed yourself, you’ll return to the heart of the city where you can enjoy a delicious dinner in one of the many restaurants for one last time. Not ready to go to sleep yet? Then dive into Athens’ vibrant nightlife for a spectacular finale. There’s clearly more than one ‘city that never sleeps’.

Day 4: Back home

By day four, you’ll inevitably have fallen in love with this fantastic city and its hospitable inhabitants, but sadly your stay in Athens is coming to an end. After a final, satisfying breakfast, it’s time to pack your bags and head home.

When is the best time for this city break?

Opt for spring (April–June) or autumn (September–November). The temperatures (20–25°C) are ideal for walks to the Acropolis and a cycle ride along the coast. In summer, the heat in the city can be intense, although the sea breeze on the Riviera offers some relief.

Is Athens easy to explore on foot?

Yes, the historic centre is compact. Neighbourhoods such as Plaka, Monastiraki and Psirri are within walking distance of each other and are largely car-free. For the cycle tour on day 3, you’ll leave the busy centre; a guide will lead you safely along cycle paths to the coast for a completely different perspective on the city.

How much time do I need for the Acropolis and the museum?

Allow half a day. It’s best to visit the Acropolis early in the morning (around 8 am) to beat the crowds and the heat. Then take a 10-minute walk to the ultra-modern Acropolis Museum, where you can admire the most important treasures from antiquity in peace (and cool surroundings).
