Against the backdrop of the peaks of the Pyrenees you will find the imposing Canfranc Station. What was once an abandoned train station is now a luxurious hotel.
Canfranc Station is located on the formerly important international rail link between France and Spain. The history of this hotel is impressive enough, but what makes this hotel even more special is that some staff members played in the train station as children.
Canfranc Estación has designed 104 rooms into warm and elegant spaces that merge with subtle art deco elements to create a contemporary and nostalgic atmosphere. Noble materials or fabrics such as wood, brass and velvet were incorporated into each of the rooms. Aragonese popular culture was also integrated with certain textile elements and colors inspired by the rich and varied regional costumes of the area. The hotel rooms are fully equipped and feature first-class amenities.
We are fans of the Junior Suite. This room possesses the traditional colors of the station: cream and green. These colors are beautifully complimented by the oak parquet. Here you get a breathtaking view of the snow-capped mountain peaks.
In the wellness area of this hotel, you can relax in the lovely heated pool.
At Canfranc Estación you will discover a spa center on the first floor. Relax in the heated pool, hit the gym or indulge yourself in one of the four treatment rooms. Around the hotel, in the Aragonese Pyrenees, there are numerous activities such as hiking, rafting or wildlife watching. Of course, the area is also excellent for snow activities, like skiing and snowboarding.
For a unique experience, take a seat in one of two restaurants located in two adjacent carriages of the building. These carriages have been restored in the classic style of the 20th century.
Canfranc Estación's gastronomic project, in collaboration with Eduardo Salanova and Ana Acín, includes three restaurants, two bars and a library. One of these restaurants is a gourmet restaurant with an excellent breakfast buffet. In fact, the Royal Breakfast concept applies here, which is committed to healthy, quality food using fresh and local products with a unique and distinctive decoration. The two other restaurants, one also in gourmet style and the other with à la carte menus, can be found in two adjacent carriages of the hotel. For a cozy and relaxing moment, you can also visit the library with cocktail bar.
This old train station is located in the Aragonese Pyrenees, where you will enjoy impressive landscapes and cool activities. The Royal Monastery of San Juan de la Peña is 47 km from the hotel, and you can also visit other towns from here. Jaca is at 23 km, Hecho at 65 km, Ansó at 77 km, Burgui at 83 km, Aínsa at 90 km and finally Isaba at 101 km. If you go a little further north, to the Spanish Pyrenees, you will find high snow-capped peaks, mountain lakes, high plains and valleys, and the beautiful national park of Ordesa y Monte Perdido.
The nearest airport is that of Pau Pyrénées, which is 97 km from Canfranc Estación. Another option is Zaragoza airport, 170 km from the hotel.
At the hotel you can park your car for 20 euros per car, which you pay on-site.
This hotel is a dream destination for railroad and history buffs. The imposing building has been through a lot and was given a new life as a five-star hotel. Staying at this hotel is quite an experience, a trip to the past with the luxury of modern comforts!
