Day 1: Arrival in Porto

Upon arrival at Porto Airport, pick up your rental car and drive to the city center. In the afternoon, embark on a boat trip on the Douro River and admire the six iconic bridges connecting Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia.

Day 2: Porto & the taste of port wine

Start your day at the impressive Sé Cathedral, the official starting point of the Camino da Costa. Stroll through the azulejo-adorned São Bento station and colorful Rua das Flores to the lively Ribeira waterfront. In the afternoon, cross the bridge to Vila Nova de Gaia for a visit and tasting at one of the historic port wine cellars.

Day 3: Cultural treasures of the Minho

Drive along the coast (Vila do Conde, Esposende) to historic Braga. Admire the Sé Cathedral and the monumental staircase of Bom Jesus do Monte. In the afternoon, explore Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal, with its medieval town center, the Castle, and the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza. Overnight stay in Viana do Castelo.

Day 4: First steps on the Camino

In the morning, discover the center of Viana do Castelo and the panoramic view from Monte de Santa Luzia. In the afternoon, your first optional walk is on the agenda: a beautiful coastal route from Praia de Carreço along dunes and the Forte da Areosa towards Viana (+/- 7 km).

Day 5: Crossing into Spain via A Guarda & Baiona

Cross the Spanish border into Galicia. In A Guarda, climb Monte Santa Trega for a fantastic view over the ocean and the Miño River. Continue to the charming coastal town of Baiona for a short seaside walk or a drink on a terrace, before traveling on to Vigo for two overnight stays.

Day 6: Cíes Islands or flavors of the Rías Baixas

Choose nature today and take a boat to the tropical-looking Cíes Islands. Or choose culture and gastronomy: visit the fishing village of Combarro, discover Albariño wines in Cambados, and enjoy a boat trip past traditional mussel platforms complete with a tasting of fresh seafood.

Day 7: Via Pontevedra to Santiago de Compostela

Heading north, pass Redondela and explore the charming, pedestrian-free historic center of Pontevedra. Here, too, you can optionally hike a section of the trail. In the afternoon, reach the magical end point of the journey: Santiago de Compostela, where you will stay for three nights.

Day 8: Santiago de Compostela with a private guide

A local guide takes you through the historic city center, past the iconic Praza do Obradoiro and the world-famous cathedral. In the afternoon, take your time to explore the city at your own pace, visit the Mercado de Abastos, and soak up the unique pilgrim atmosphere in the lively squares.

Day 9: Cabo Finisterre & the Costa da Morte

Enjoy an impressive day trip to the rugged Atlantic coast. Follow in the footsteps of the pilgrims to Cabo Finisterre, the mythical "end of the world." En route, discover charming fishing villages, the Ézaro waterfall, and dramatic sea cliffs. End your day watching the sunset by the famous lighthouse.

Day 10: Return trip from Porto

After breakfast, drive from Santiago de Compostela back to Porto Airport. Return your rental car and board your flight back to Brussels.

How demanding are the walks on this trip, and are they mandatory?

The walks during this tour are optional and have a light to moderate difficulty level (usually between 5 and 10 km). The focus of the trip is on experiencing the region and the atmosphere of the pilgrim route, not on covering long distances. Every day, you can choose whether you want to walk a section or explore the surroundings at a more relaxed pace by car and on foot.

Do I need hiking gear if I only walk short sections of the Camino?

Full trekking gear is not necessary. We do recommend sturdy, broken-in walking shoes or good sports shoes with sufficient grip, as some paths along the coast or in nature can be unpaved. A small backpack, water bottle, sun protection, and a light rain jacket are also handy to bring along for the day walks.

Is this trip suitable if I don't enjoy walking, but am interested in the region?

Absolutely. The walks are completely optional. All highlights, historic cities, and coastal destinations are easily accessible by car. You can enjoy the culture, gastronomy, and atmosphere along the Camino da Costa at your own pace without having to walk a single kilometer if you prefer not to.
