French Polynesia is a vast archipelago in the South Pacific, consisting of 118 islands spread across five archipelagos. The best known of these are the Society Islands, home to Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, Huahine and Taha'a. These islands are very different from each other: Tahiti is the cultural and economic center, Moorea is known for its green mountain scenery, while Bora Bora and Taha'a are surrounded by lagoons and coral reefs. Huahine remains one of the most authentic islands, with well-preserved Marae temples and traditional Polynesian villages.
Besides idyllic beaches and clear blue lagoons, French Polynesia has a rich culture that is still deeply rooted in everyday life. Ancient Polynesian rituals, such as the dancing of the Ori Tahiti and the art of weaving with pandanus leaves, are still visible on the islands. The underwater world is at least as impressive, with colorful coral reefs and tropical fish attracting snorkelers and divers from around the world. Thanks to the tropical climate, travel here is pleasant year-round, with the driest period from May to October.
